Benefits for High-Resolution IONICON PTR-TOF for Food & Flavor Science

Analysis of Complex Flavors in Real-Time with Ultra-Low Detection Limits

For many years PTR-MS instruments are considered a gold-standard in many applications when it gets to the quantitative online analysis of very low concentrated VOCs without sample preparation. Among the early adopters of this unique technology that was commercialized by our company back in 1998, were researchers interested in aroma release monitoring and the direct analysis of flavors in real-time while consumers were enjoying the products. This lead to an early breakthrough of PTR-MS in food & flavor science.

INTRANEF – More analytical performance for agroindustrial applications

Fondazione Edmund Mach (FEM) and IONICON are funding a PhD program in Physics at the University of Milan on the improvement of the analytical performance of PTR-MS in agroindustrial applications. The project is called “INTRANEF” for INcreasing ThRoughput and ANalytical Efficency of direct injection mass spectrometry for agroindustrial applications.

Food-grade CO2 analysis: new PTR-TOF 1000 ultra application

Real-time Quantification of Impurities in Food-Grade CO2 with PTR-MS

The modern food and beverage industry is not imaginable without food-grade carbon (CO2) dioxide. Its many uses include carbonation of beverages, and as packaging and cooling gas.

In this study we investigate volatile organic impurities emerging from a food-grade certified (European standard E 290) carbon dioxide cylinder using a PTR-TOF 1000 ultra.

The PTR-TOF 1000 ultra is a compact PTR-TOFMS equipped with the ION-BOOSTER funnel technology. Its high sensitivity make the PTR-TOF 1000 ultra a perfect tool for applications where complex matrices have to be rapidly analyzed. One such example application is quality assurance in the food and flavor industry.

Real-time PTR-MS meets autosampler – high throughput VOC analysis

The real-time capability of a PTR-MS gas analyzer is typically utilized to continuously monitor trace VOC concentrations – but not only. Some users appreciate the enormous speed of a PTR-MS to rapidly analyze discrete samples in seconds, where a manual sample provision can be the bottleneck.

IONICON Autosampler for PTR-MS

This has become greatly facilitated with the new IONICON autosampler for PTR-MS. Analyzing hundreds of sample vials in an automated manner not only provides high data quality but also enables an ultra-high throughput, drastically reducing processing cost for larger batches of samples.

PTR-MS on Customs Detection Technologies Workshop

IONICON has participated in the 1st Workshop on Customs Detection Technologies. We have gathered exciting insight and presented an interesting showcase for drug detection with PTR-MS.

The 1st Workshop on Customs Detection Technologies has taken place in October 2014 in Budapest, Hungary. Representatives of the customs of European countries and those of other invited countries have met with scientists of customs laboratories and representatives of the industry. PTR-MS is an emerging technology for safety, security and customs applications. We gladly followed the invitation to present PTR-MS in a talk and in life demonstrations at the exhibition.
