COVID-19: IONICONs are Teleworking and Continuing to Support You

We are monitoring Innsbruck’s air for changes due to Austria’s “shutdown”

IONICON reacted quickly to help containing the Corona virus spread. From day one after the Austrian government has ordered a de facto shutdown including restrictions on the movement of people, most IONICONs work from home to keep our renowned customer support available to you on a real-time basis. Please use email as the preferred way to contact us and allow remote access to your instrument.

Production continues during COVID-19 outbreak – behind closed doors

We are currently taking all required and recommended precautions and continue our production processes with limited and specially briefed staff.

CHARON PTR-TOF 6000 X2 analyzes Innsbruck’s air during the shutdown

Witnessing the shutdown and aiming to document its impact on the environment, we have started analyzing Innsbruck’s air with a CHARON PTR-TOF 6000 X2.

So does the University of Innsbruck, deploying the same type of analyzer at their site. Our goal is to quantify the effects of the shutdown on traffic emissions and the urban air quality.

New Analytical Chemistry Paper on CHARON PTR-TOFMS Performance

Bulk Organic Aerosol Analysis by PTR-MS with High Precision & Accuracy

IONICON All-in-One Analyzer: the CHARON PTR-TOF 6000 X2

Very recently, we have published a technical note in Analytical Chemistry introducing an improved methodology for the determination of organic aerosol properties with CHARON PTR-TOFMS. By analysis of a large set of pure compounds we were able to derive an algorithm to correct for ionic fragmentation. Therefore CHARON is now able to measure the bulk aerosol mass concentration, bulk average elemental ratios (e.g. H:C, O:C) and even bulk average molecular formulas in unprecedented precision and accuracy.

New IONICON Extended Volatility Range (EVR) PTR-MS

Ultra-Fast Time Response Even for IVOCs & SVOCs

Real-Time Ultra-Sensitive trace VOC analyzers from IONICON are known for their response times in fractions of a second and hence are often used to follow rapidly changing processes and VOC signals. However, some substances are known to show a slower instrumental response because of unwanted surface interactions. These substances are either highly polar or have a reduced volatility and are typically classified as „sticky“ compounds.

IONICON’s new EVR PTR-MS: ultra-fast response times for IVOCs & SVOCs

With IONICON’s new Extended Volatility Range (EVR) setup we minimize unwanted surface interactions and still preserve all the advantages of our fully pressure controlled inlet system. This extends our sub-second response from VOCs to a wide range of compounds in the intermediate-volatility range (IVOCs, e.g. 2-tridecanone and vanillin) and even reduces the response of semi-volatile species (SVOC) like cis-pinonic acid to single-digit seconds. Taking CHARON PTR-TOF to the Sky

At the Frontier of Airborne Research aboard NASA’s Flying Laboratory

Using the opportunity provided by NASA’s Student Airborne Research Program (SARP) we gave wings to our newly developed CHARON aerosol inlet. In cooperation with the University of Oslo our team combined CHARON and a custom built PTR-TOF 4000 instrument.

“Business Class” for our airworthy CHARON PTR-TOF 4000, monitoring VOCs & aerosol in real-time.

Airworthiness requires withstanding of heavy G-forces, coping with pressure changes and most importantly being fail safe. Therefore unique modifications to CHARON have been made and thoroughly tested before getting airborne. (more…)

Laborpraxis application award 2018 goes to CHARON for PTR-TOFMS

Last week the 26th analytica trade show and conference attracted some 35,800 international visitors to Munich, breaking all previous attendance records.

Exactly 50 years after analytica was launched, the anniversary event was again a perfect stage for IONICON to show-case our latest innovations, especially since this year we also have an anniversary: we will soon celebrate 20 years IONICON!

analytica 2018 held yet another very positive surprise for us. On Tuesday, in the evening of the first bustling show day, we were invited for an award ceremony of the LABORPRAXIS application awards 2018. We knew that we were shortlisted together with our colleagues from Pfeiffer Vacuum and Thermo Fisher Scientific for the category of water- and environmental analytics, but that we would be leaving the party as winner we would’t have ever dreamed of.  (more…)
