Ionimed’s medical research on coverpage

As a partner in the research framework ONCOTYROL (Center for personalized cancer medicine), Ionimed Analytik has conducted clinical breath gas analysis to investigate new ways for breast cancer screening. This work has now been picked by the Austrian journal GYN-AKTIV as their cover story for issue 6/2012 (in german). In this project Ionimed has employed an Ionicon PTR-TOF 8000 for the analysis of breath samples from more than 200 patients and controls.

Global Medical Discovery features Ionimed’s biotech research

The prestigious Global Medical Discovery website has selected to feature a cutting edge PTR-MS application in biotechnology.

IONICON is conducting research to develop novel solutions for the monitoring of fermentation processes in biotechnology based on PTR-MS. This is done under the auspices of the Austrian center of industrial biotechnology (ACIB), with academic partners (BOKU, Vienna) as well as large biopharmaceutical companies, such as Sandoz and Böhringer Ingelheim.

A break-through in biotech research has been published recently – as we have earlier reported on this blog. Several national Austrian and German media have reported on this story (in German):  not only in the scientific media, such as the blog Medizin-Aspekte, but also the Austrian daily newspaper Der Standard.

Now this publication has attracted more international attention and has been selected by Global Medical Discovery; a website which selects and features breaking news about the latest scientific discoveries in this field.

IONICON PTR-TOF 8000 helps measuring air quality onboard Airbus aircraft

For Airbus, cabin air quality is the key to a comfortable flight – IONICON PTR-MS technology helps the aircraft manufacturer analyzing the air.

On aircraft, cabin air quality contributes significantly to the comfort and well being of passengers and crews alike. Commercial aircraft operate primarily in the troposphere and lower stratosphere, which is an environment hostile to life. A sophisticated aircraft environmental control system ensures that our journey onboard aircraft usually is a comfortable experience despite outside conditions of -50°C, high ozone concentrations and only 1/5th of the ambient pressure on the earth’s surface. Outside air which is usually very clean, particularly during flight, is conveyed into the pressurized fuselage and approximately the same amount is discarded overboard by the environmental control system. The entire cabin air is exchanged with outside air every three minutes.

Press conference: Successful implementation of PTR-MS into bioprocess monitoring

The Austrian Center of Industrial Biotechnology (ACIB) with Ionimed Analytik as company partner have presented the success story  “ A breathtaking approach “ – Successful implementation of proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry (PTR-MS) into bioprocess monitoring on a press conference, 01. Juni 2012 Cafe Central, Innsbruck (Pressekonferenz „Verräterische Atemluft“ Bedeutung des ACIB in Tirol).

The complexity of bioprocesses, with living cells as production systems, represents the major bottleneck on the way to rational bioprocess design and control. In view of regulatory issues and initiatives, comprehensive process understanding is essential and consequently new technologies must be introduced to bioprocess monitoring. PTR-MS technology from the SME Ionimed (now part of IONICON) was identified as a promising technique for monitoring of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the fermenter offgas. In collaboration with two pharmaceutical companies, in frame of the ACIB, PTR-MS technology was implemented for bioprocess monitoring for the first time.

PTR-MS ist eine etablierte Technologie in der Lebensmittelanalytik und der Geschmacks- und Geruchsforschung

In 1998 IONICON was founded and we were able to sell the first commercial instrument. Since then, after years of dedicated research, passionate development and intensively working together with our partners and customers, we sold more than 200 units. Ultraempfindliches Analysegerät spürt gefährliche Stoffe in geringster Konzentration sofort in der Luft auf

„Unsere Technologie kann sich jeder als eine Art ‘Luft-Detektiv’ vorstellen. Sobald winzigste Konzentrationen von Sprengmitteln, chemischen Kampfstoffen oder weiteren gefährlichen Substanzen auftreten, schlägt zeitgleich als technischer Kriminalist unser ultraempfindliches Analysegerät an.
